Join us in welcoming our newest account coordinator (AC) — Kelsey Herbers! Originally from Cincinnati, Kelsey moved to Nashville in 2013 to attend Belmont University, where she graduated magna cum laude in May. There she majored in communication studies, with a minor in journalism. She honed her writing chops as a content intern for the university, writing more than 170 (!!) articles, before joining the team at Vanderbilt University Medical Center as communications content coordinator.
Get to know more about Kelsey, an avid list maker and lover of Fido’s French toast, in the Q&A below.
When did you realize you wanted to pursue a career in public relations?
During my time at Belmont, I had the chance to intern in the university’s Office of Communications, where I was in charge of drafting press releases, writing online content and helping with media events. As a communication studies major, I hadn’t had any prior knowledge of media relations, but being able to assist with promoting a brand I loved (Belmont) proved to be very fulfilling. It made me realize I wanted to use my writing skills to help others get the recognition they deserve!
What are you most looking forward to at the Bradford Group, both personally and professionally?
Personally, I’m looking forward to getting to know my new team, which seems to be filled with dynamic and enthusiastic people from whom I can learn a lot! Professionally, I’m excited for the variety of assignments and challenges that will come my way. There are certain parts of PR I haven’t had the chance to work with yet, and I can’t wait to start digging into those!
If you could time travel to the past or future, where would you go and why?
I think it’d be fun to travel into the past and watch my very first interactions with the people I’m close with now. That would be pretty entertaining!
What does your ideal Saturday afternoon in Nashville look like?
I like exploring the parks around Nashville! An ideal Saturday might also involve hanging with my cat. And eating Chipotle. Probably a combination of all three, if I’m honest.
What’s your favorite place to eat in Nashville?
Fido! It has the best French toast!
What’s your favorite quote?
“If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.”
What three words describe your personality?
Light-hearted, enthusiastic and resourceful
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was really little, I wanted to be an explorer (if that’s even a profession). As a teen, I wanted to be a songwriter. But I think I’ll just stick with the writing part!
