Inbound Marketing Basics: Understanding Top Business Directories

Having an Internet presence is such an important part of generating traffic to your site and getting customers through the door.

Local search should be part of your Internet marketing campaign, and one of the easiest way to start enhancing your business’s SEO is registering on business listings or business directories.

Submitting your company’s information to business directories can take a lot of time, especially since some allow you to give more information than others. You want to keep your business information consistent on all business directories so I recommend having the following information readily available to copy and paste:

  • Business Name
  • Address
  • Website URL
  • Telephone Number
  • One sentence about your business
  • 4-6 keywords associated with your business
  • Social media profile URLs

Also, you’ll want to keep an excel list of business directories you create an account with the user name, password and link to the URL. If you need to make updates to your listing or list a new business in the future, this will be helpful to have.

There are hundreds of free business directories, and if you’re curious what local listings are hot in your area, check with getlist.org as they rank the top 10 business listings in your area. Start with those 10, and then consider working your way through some of these on our list:
